Sustainable Design: A Collaborative Approach

Roger Chang will present several case studies of projects where a collaborative approach was used to achieve innovative design solutions. This includes the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, GA, a set of buildings on the National Register of Historic Buildings, and a new performing arts center, and a new music facility at Oberlin College.

The use of ASHRAE Standard 90.1, the reference energy standard of the USGBC’s LEED rating system, will be discussed within the context of an integrated design process.

Roger Chang, PE, LEED AP is a principal and director of sustainability with Westlake Reed Leskosky, a 105-year old integrated architecture and engineering design firm with offices in Cleveland, Washington DC, Phoenix, and New York.

Mr. Chang previously led building simulation for Arup’s New York office. Past project work includes the Syracuse Center of Excellence, Raleigh-Durham Airport Terminal 2, Brooklyn Children’s Museum, and development of Princeton University’s campus energy guidelines. Mr. Chang is a graduate of MIT with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering. He currently serves as a co-chair for the Pratt Institute’s undergraduate architecture sustainability committee.
